Robert Kocharyan Files Lawsuit Against the Republic of Armenia Demanding 2 Million Dram Compensation

Robert Kocharyan has filed a lawsuit against the Republic of Armenia, represented by the Ministry of Finance. This information has been reported by the Judicial Information System.

According to Armtimes.com, Kocharyan is demanding the acknowledgement of a violation of his rights and is seeking 2 million dram in non-material damages from the Republic of Armenia.

The lawsuit was submitted on August 19 and has been assigned to Judge Armenuhi Badinyan of the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction.

Kocharyan’s representative, Hayk Aloumian, stated in an interview with “Haykakan Zhamanak” that the reason for the lawsuit is that on March 10, when Robert Kocharyan was hospitalized due to health issues and could not attend the hearing of the March 1 case, Judge Anna Danibekyan disclosed information regarding his health condition, which contained medical secrets, during an open court session without consulting the defense.

“If we draw parallels regarding the same issue, only one piece of information was leaked about Judge Danibekyan, and it was such that if it had not been leaked at that moment, it would have become evident a month later. Nevertheless, a criminal case was immediately initiated concerning that fact,” said Aloumian.

He noted that in this case, detailed information was disseminated during an open court session, which has significant public resonance. “Under these circumstances, this time we opted not for the rationale of initiating a criminal case, but for a milder option,” Aloumian stated, adding that since the claim is property-related, the Ministry of Finance represents the responding side on behalf of the Republic of Armenia.
