Georgy Baghdasaryan Appointed Deputy Attorney General of Armenia

Today, based on his personal application, Davit Melkonyan, the Deputy Attorney General of Armenia and a third-class state advisor in justice, has been relieved of his duties by the order of the Attorney General. This decision is in connection with his new role at Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Law and his increased engagement in academic and pedagogical activities. This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office.

During the meeting of the Prosecutor's Office collegium held on August 24, Attorney General Arthur Davtyan expressed gratitude to Mr. Melkonyan for his substantial contribution to the prosecutor's office over the past six years, as well as his conscientious, dedicated, extensive, and effective work, wishing him success in the equally important educational field in his future endeavors.

The Attorney General also announced that, due to Davit Melkonyan's high professional qualities and scholarly mindset, he will be appointed as the head of the newly formed scientific-methodological council at the Prosecutor's Office.

During the invited collegium session, based on articles 1 and 3 of Article 36 of the Law on the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, Attorney General Arthur Davtyan proposed the candidacy of Georgy Baghdasaryan, the Prosecutor of Yerevan, for the position of Deputy Attorney General, which was unanimously approved by the collegium members.

By the order of the Attorney General dated August 24, Georgy Baghdasaryan has been appointed Deputy Attorney General of Armenia.

Biographical Information on Georgy Baghdasaryan

Georgy Sureni Baghdasaryan was born on October 14, 1987, in the town of Alaverdi, Lori Province. In 2007, he graduated from the Yerevan State University Faculty of Law with a bachelor's degree, and in 2009, he obtained a master's degree from the same faculty. On March 30, 2012, he defended his doctoral thesis at YSU and earned a degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences.

From February 12, 2008, to October 8, 2008, he worked as a junior specialist in the legal expertise department of the staff of the Court of Cassation of Armenia, and from October 8, 2008, to March 15, 2013, he was an advisor to the president of the Court of Cassation.

On March 15, 2013, he was appointed as a prosecutor of the Shengavit Administrative District Prosecutor's Office in Yerevan, and on November 1, 2013, he became the prosecutor of Yerevan.

From March 17, 2014, to May 8, 2014, he worked as a senior prosecutor in the Department of Supervision over Criminal Prosecution and Appeals of Judicial Acts at the Attorney General's Office, and from May 8, 2014, to March 30, 2015, he was the deputy head of the same department.

From March 31, 2015, to October 12, 2016, he served as the Deputy Prosecutor of Yerevan. By the order of the Attorney General dated October 12, 2016, he was appointed head of the Department of Supervision over Criminal Prosecution and Appeals of Judicial Acts at the Attorney General’s Office. On July 11, 2018, he was appointed as the Prosecutor of Yerevan by the Attorney General.

He holds the position of first-class advisor in justice and is a member of the collegium of the Prosecutor's Office and the Qualification Commission under the Attorney General. He is also a member of the management board of the Justice Academy of Armenia and a member of the Professional Council No. 001 of the Higher Qualification Committee.
Since 2009, he has been engaged in academic and pedagogical activities, teaching at the French University in Armenia, the Justice Academy of Armenia, and Yerevan State University. He is the author of one monograph, 26 scientific articles, and co-author of one practical guide. He has been awarded the Mkrtich Gosh Medal by the decree of the President of Armenia on June 29, 2017.
