VIDEO: Lydian Armenia Reopens Laboratory in Gorayk
«Lydian Armenia» has announced the reopening of its sample preparation, analytical, and scientific chemical laboratory in the Gorayk community of Syunik. The laboratory had been operational in Gorayk since 2007. Due to prolonged illegal activities surrounding Amulsar, the laboratory was shut down, forcing many employees to seek opportunities abroad.
This laboratory was where the preparation of samples for analytical analysis and the determination of bulk weight took place, as well as the modeling of acid rock drainage management, under the supervision of leading foreign experts. As a result of this work, internationally accepted technology for passive treatment of acid rock drainage will be introduced in Armenia for the first time.
This unique laboratory had been applying the most advanced environmental practices during the construction phase of Amulsar while simultaneously training young specialists.
Thanks to the Amulsar project, Gorayk was one of the few rural communities where young people had the opportunity to gain new professional knowledge, receive higher education funded by Lydian Armenia, become certified specialists, and work alongside international top-level professionals.
Today, this laboratory, which holds significant importance for Gorayk, has reopened with the prospect of operating at full capacity in the future. «Lydian Armenia» aims to apply for international certification of the laboratory, after which it will offer its services to companies in the mining and other sectors, including in the management of acid drainage.
The video features residents of Gorayk discussing the social difficulties and emigration created in the community due to two years of illegal actions. We also present footage from the laboratory that has reopened after almost two years of inactivity.
