Two Individuals Charged with Obtaining Driver's License through Bribery

The investigation into a case of bribery, inducement to bribery, and attempted mediation of bribery has been completed by the Dilijan Investigation Division of the Tavush Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee. This was reported by the RA Investigative Committee.

According to information obtained during the pre-trial proceedings, an 18-year-old youth participated in a practical exam in 2020 to obtain a driver's license but received a negative evaluation. He fortuitously encountered a 49-year-old fellow citizen and disclosed his intention to acquire a driver's license, noting that he planned to retake the practical exam. The latter expressed willingness to assist the young man.

On May 21, 2020, in the city of Ijevan, the 18-year-old participated in the examination again and received a negative evaluation once more. Subsequently, he, encouraged by the 49-year-old fellow citizen, attempted to give a bribe to an official through an intermediary, providing money to influence the results of the examination and secure a driver's license.

The 49-year-old man attempted to hand the money to the police inspector, but the inspector refused to accept the offered sum and declined to take any actions in favor of the youth using his official position.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, the 49-year-old man was charged under part 1 of Article 38-312 of the RA Criminal Code (inducement to bribery) and part 1 of Article 34-313 of the RA Criminal Code (attempted mediation of bribery), while the 18-year-old was charged under part 1 of Article 312 of the RA Criminal Code (bribery). A signature not to leave the country has been chosen as a preventive measure against them.

The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
