Sharp Questions Raised to Vahram Avetisyan. Makunts on Former Constitutional Court Candidate's Withdrawal

The former candidate for the Constitutional Court judge from the government, Vahram Avetisyan, has made his decision, and we respect that decision. This was stated today, August 18, during a conversation with reporters by Lilit Makunts, head of the "My Step" faction.

It is noteworthy that members of the "My Step" faction met today with the Supreme Court President, Yervand Khundkaryan, who was nominated for the Constitutional Court by the Judges’ Assembly.

“We meet with all candidates, and Khundkaryan was no exception. Almost half of the faction members were not present. The parliamentarians raised all the questions that concerned them, including specific emphasis circulating in the public and discussed in the press,” said Makunts.

When asked about the atmosphere during the meeting with Vahram Avetisyan, the former candidate for the Constitutional Court who withdrew his application, she stated, “The meeting was held in the same atmosphere as with other candidates. That is, various questions were raised, including sharp questions that were posed. Perhaps that was the reason why Mr. Avetisyan felt such an impression from the questions posed by certain MPs.”

Regarding the question of whether the government has a new candidate, Makunts said that the "My Step" faction does not have information on this matter.

In response to a journalist's observation that criticisms are also directed at Khundkaryan, similar to those directed at Avetisyan, Makunts remarked, “We must note that Mr. Avetisyan himself decided that he did not want the government to consider his candidacy. We have no further role in this matter. The candidate made his decision, and we respect that decision and wish him success in his professional activities.”

Lilit Makunts mentioned that there were differences in the questions directed at Khundkaryan and Avetisyan. “All the questions that concerned the MPs were raised. The meeting was closed, and if Khundkaryan deems it necessary to discuss the details, I would advise directing the question to him.”

Recall that yesterday, Vahram Avetisyan announced that there are contradictions with the ruling political majority, and under those conditions, he considers it unrealistic to receive 80 votes, and he has withdrawn his consent to be nominated.
