Lebanon Extends State of Emergency After Beirut Port Explosion
The Lebanese authorities have decided on Monday to extend the state of emergency imposed after the explosion at the Beirut port for another month, until September 18. According to РИА Новости, this was stated in the announcement by the Secretary General of the Lebanese government. The decision was made with the approval of the President and the Prime Minister.
The state of emergency was initially declared on August 8 for two weeks. The powerful explosion occurred in the capital of Lebanon on August 4, causing the deaths of hundreds of people. Additionally, hundreds of thousands have been left homeless, and thousands have been injured.
Earlier today, it was reported that investigators have issued an arrest warrant for the head of the country's customs service. Criminal cases have also been opened against 25 other individuals, including the port's director general Hassan Krayti, customs service head Badri Daher, and his predecessor Shafik Merya.
