Who Are the 10 Most Expensive Armenian Football Players of the Last 15 Years
According to Transfermarkt, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the most expensive Armenian football player of the last 15 years. His transfer fee peaked on March 1, 2016, while he was playing for Manchester United, valued at €37 million.
In second place is former Spartak Moscow forward Yura Movsisyan, whose transfer value was €10 million on March 3, 2014. Rounding out the top three is Aras Ozbilis, former teammate of Movsisyan at Spartak, and currently playing for Pyunik Yerevan. The transfer fee for the 30-year-old midfielder on March 3, 2014, was €7 million.
For comparison, Transfermarkt currently estimates Mkhitaryan's transfer value at €20 million, Ozbilis' at €300,000, and Movsisyan's at €400,000. It's worth noting that Movsisyan has not played for some time and currently does not have a club.
On the fourth position is Sarkis Adamyan, a forward at the German club Hoffenheim, with his transfer value estimated at €5 million in March of this year. The top five is completed by Artavazd Karamyan, whose transfer was valued at €3.3 million in June 2009 when he was at Romanian club Timișoara. Markus Pizelli's highest transfer value of €3 million was recorded in June 2013 while he was playing for Kuban Krasnodar.
The list also includes another foreign player who has represented the Armenian national team. Cameroonian goalkeeper Édouard Apoula Edima Beté was valued at €2.7 million in December 2010 when playing for PSG.
In the eighth position is goalkeeper David Yurchenko, who recently expressed a willingness to play for the Armenian national team. His transfer value was €2 million in 2015, while playing for FC Ufa. The ninth and tenth positions are shared by two of our national team’s former best players, Arthur Petrosyan and Tigran Barseghyan. The latter’s transfer value was €1.5 million in December 2019 when he was playing for Kazakh club Kaisar. Today, Barseghyan is a player for another Kazakh club, Astana. Arthur Petrosyan also had a transfer value of €1.5 million in 2004 when he was playing for Swiss club Zürich.
It’s important to note that before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the Armenian national team had five players with a transfer value estimated at over €1 million. Today, the picture is different. After Mkhitaryan, Sarkis Adamyan's transfer has decreased by €1 million, now standing at €4 million. Tigran Barseghyan's transfer value has decreased by €300,000 to €1.2 million. Varazdat Haroyan, a key defender for our national team playing in Ural, has also seen a drop of €400,000, bringing his value to €800,000. Another representative from the Kazakh club Kairat, Kamo Hovhannisyan, has also decreased by €200,000 to €800,000. The transfer value of Khorein Bayramyan, a midfielder from Rostov who has expressed willingness to play for the national team, is €2.8 million.
Currently, Armenia has four football players whose transfer values exceed €1 million: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sarkis Adamyan, Khorein Bayramyan, and Tigran Barseghyan. In total, if a month ago the total transfer value of Armenian national team players was €35 million, that number has now decreased to €28.3 million. It should be noted that almost all players' transfer values have fallen due to the pandemic.
