Large Shipment of Drugs Imported from the United Kingdom to Armenia

The State Revenue Committee's Anti- smuggling Department continues its fight against the illegal transfer of drugs and psychotropic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.

Recently, the Anti-smuggling Department received information that a shipment from the United Kingdom contained large quantities of drugs. This information was acted upon in cooperation with the officers of the Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As a result, after receiving the shipment, a citizen of Armenia was brought to the Anti-smuggling Department from Hrachya Kochar Street in Yerevan. Upon conducting a personal search, 1 fragment and 46 whole pills of the drug of the type "MDMA" with a skull design were found.

Similarly, 19 pills were discovered from another shipment imported from the United Kingdom, which was targeted as a result of analytical work conducted by the officers of the law enforcement cooperation and information analysis department of the Anti-smuggling Department.

In both cases, materials composed under Article 267.1 of the RA Criminal Code have been forwarded to the Investigation and Operational-Search Department of the State Revenue Committee. An investigation is underway.

Notice: A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law by a legally binding court verdict.
