25-Year-Old Man Dies During Protests in Belarus
The authorities in Belarus have confirmed that a 25-year-old man has died after being arrested by the police. The Guardian reports that Alexander Vyhorin was detained during protests that took place in Gomel on August 10.
His mother stated that her son had heart-related issues and that he was held in a police vehicle for hours, during which his condition deteriorated.
Vyhorin's mother also mentioned that she received no information about her son from the police. She learned of his death only on August 12.
"I had been searching for him all these days. I was given no information. Today I was told that Sasha is in the morgue," said the mother of the deceased protester.
According to her, Alexander was not participating in the protests; he was on his way to see his girlfriend.
Onliner reports that the protester had been subjected to administrative liability by court decision. After the court hearing, his health worsened, and he was hospitalized, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.
The first report of a death during the protests was confirmed on Monday when Belarusian police announced that an explosive device had detonated in the hands of one of the protesters. Opposition supporters have suggested another theory, claiming that the protester died from gunfire opened by the police.
Let us recall that protests in Belarus began after the presidential elections held on August 9, which resulted in Lukashenko being elected president for the sixth time.
