Mushroom Poisoning Case in Armenia: Victims' Condition Rated as Severe

Today, five citizens have sought medical assistance at the Vanadzor Medical Center with a preliminary diagnosis of "mushroom poisoning." Medical aid has been provided to the victims at the medical center. One of them has been discharged, while the others are in the intensive care unit. Currently, the victims' condition is rated as severe.

The victims reportedly consumed mushrooms they had gathered from the forest. This information has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

“To avoid mushroom poisoning and subsequent complications, Health Ministry specialists once again warn against the following:

  • Do not consume mushrooms of unknown origin.
  • Avoid gathering mushrooms from roadside areas.
  • Do not rely on pictures to differentiate between edible and poisonous mushrooms, as toxic mushrooms often grow near edible ones and can closely resemble them.
  • Do not rely on popular myths that claim poisonous mushrooms do not attract insects or animals, or that silver turns black when boiled with mushrooms, as this does not hold true.
  • Do not eat raw mushrooms.
  • Do not feed children mushrooms.
  • People with gastrointestinal issues are advised not to consume mushrooms.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol with mushrooms, as it activates several toxic substances.
  • Do not self-medicate.
