Nearly 1000 Armenians Detained in Moscow, Some Arrested

In Moscow, approximately 1000 Armenians have been detained following clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, with some individuals being arrested. Those detained include a segment who were released after an administrative record was filed, while others were fined and had to pay a certain amount. Armenian citizens who were arrested will remain in custody for 2 months pending the completion of the investigation.

This information was disclosed to Lurer.com by a legal association affiliated with the Armenian Union of Russia, emphasizing that the detained citizens are accused of violating public order through hooliganism and the use of weapons or other objects.

Currently, lawyers from the association are providing defense for all participants involved in the clashes. “Some of the detained citizens were part of a procession in the city with flags, and after being documented for holding an unauthorized action, the police released them. However, those in custody are suspected of storming Azerbaijani restaurants and committing hooligan acts. Following these incidents, there are two injured Armenians: Garik Grigoryan, the driver of a BMW, and Erik Ananyan. Several Azerbaijanis have been arrested in connection with their cases, with seven being charged with attempted murder,” said the association, highlighting that currently, no Armenian citizens are undergoing deportation.

It is important to note that the legal association has been operating under the Armenian Union of Russia's Moscow office for about a year. Throughout this period, the lawyers have repeatedly demonstrated their professionalism, especially evident last week during clashes between Azerbaijanis and our compatriots. The latter were forced to defend themselves and their businesses from angry Azerbaijani mobs. Russian security forces intervened in the resolution of the conflict, managing to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the disturbances in the capital within a few hours. Ara Abrahamyan, the president of the Armenian Union of Russia, is playing a significant role in resolving the situation.
