Video: Georgia. Disaster in Racha Region. Evacuations Underway
Heavy rains in Georgia's Racha region have caused the Rioni River to flood, damaging several bridges, highways, and washing away electricity transmission poles. This information was shared by the office of the Prime Minister of Georgia.
According to reports, under the instruction of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, a team including the Prime Minister's advisor on regional development Sozar Subari, Deputy Ministers of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze and Ilia Begiashvili, as well as the director of the United Water Supply Company Giga Mandaria, has been dispatched to the disaster zone, as reported by Aliq.ge.
The disaster has impacted villages in the Oni municipality. Roads and residential houses have been damaged due to the rains and the overflowing of rivers. According to acting mayor of Oni Davit Chikvaidze, primarily infrastructure has been affected, though several families have also suffered damage. Jenws.ge reports this information.
“Unfortunately, the damage area is larger than yesterday. The road leading to Zemo Racha is significantly affected. In terms of damage, it is quite extensive, mostly covering infrastructure facilities, some of which are homes. We do not have precise information at this point,” stated Davit Chikvaidze.
He also mentioned that there was a threat to two families, as the river was next to their house, and the rescue service moved them to a safe area.
