According to sources, hours later, the Metsamor Medical Center received a call from the police reporting that 52-year-old Khachatur Abovyan, a resident of Zartonq village, had been admitted for treatment with multiple scratches and injuries to the scalp, bruises to the back surface, soft tissue injuries around the left jaw, and multiple scratches on the lower limbs. Khachatur A. informed the police that his injuries were sustained during the aforementioned conflict when Mkhitar Sargsyan hit him with a beer can.
Suren and Sirekan Poghosyan, H. Abovyan, and S. Yepryemyan sought medical assistance at the Metsamor Medical Center at 17:10 on the same day. M. Sargsyan, T. Bakhchagulyan, S. Hovsepyan, N. The circumstances of the event are under investigation. Relevant materials are being prepared by the investigative division of the Metsamor Police.
As previously reported, deputy mayor Suren Poghosyan sustained serious injuries during the incident and sought medical attention on July 27. "The former village mayor was also present. When he and Khachik started arguing, they began to hit. That's where the fight started, otherwise it was just a conversation. I, my brother, and a few others who came to help were injured. Seryozha Yepryemyan had four broken ribs from being hit with a stone. Hamlet, who came to help me, got his head injured. Khachatur Abovyan was brutally beaten with a pipe. The beating was so fierce that it seemed unlikely any person could do such a thing. I lost consciousness after being hit from behind and fell to the ground. Narek and Argishti Melkonyan, along with Mkhitar Sargsyan, hit me with a pipe and a metal rod while I was down, and our guys barely managed to rescue us. I was injured on my head, received 8-10 stitches, my arm is broken, and my ribs hurt," Suren Poghosyan recounted the details of the incident in an interview with NEWS.am, noting that everyone has since been discharged from the hospital.
Suren Poghosyan stated that the reasons for the incident date back a year and a half, suggesting that former village mayor Paruyr Sargsyan is struggling to accept that he is no longer in the position and is seeking revenge.
