Armenian Billionaire Will Compensate Damage to Azerbaijani Business, If Azerbaijanis Compensate Armenians
Sergey Sarkisov, co-owner of the RESO insurance group and a billionaire, has appealed to representatives of the Azerbaijani and Armenian diasporas, urging them to help cease the unrest in Moscow amid escalating tensions at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. His appeal was published on behalf of the Sarkisov family and the "Assembly of Armenians," as reported by RBC.
Sarkisov specifically stated in his announcement that he is ashamed of those who "have initiated their barbaric expressions of nationalism far from their homeland, by beating or killing people simply because they belong to another nation." He noted, "It is necessary to stop those who instigate extremism among their compatriots outside the borders of Russia."
Sarkisov announced that his family is ready to compensate for the damage caused to Azerbaijani property by vandals in Moscow. The businessman expressed confidence that Azerbaijani entrepreneurs would also agree to compensate for the damages caused to Armenian property as a result of the unrest. "I appeal to representatives of Armenian and Azerbaijani intellectuals, to the business representatives of both nationalities: stop, bring the vandals and extremists to reason. Explain to them that it is not in line with the traditions of our peoples to engage in such clarifications in a house that has welcomed you, given you the opportunity to work and live, and allowed your children to study. I mean Russia. Do not disgrace your peoples, your ancestors. What has been happening in recent days is an unacceptable manifestation of ingratitude and disrespect towards the hosts of the house. Our family will take on the compensation for the damages inflicted by Armenians on the property of Azerbaijani businessmen who consider them real men only if they shout louder or break windows," he noted in his message.
Sergey Sarkisov is the founder of the RESO-Garantia insurance company. He is included in the company’s board of directors and is a member of the Presidency and Executive Committee of the Russian Union of Insurers. He ranks 147th in Forbes' list of Russian billionaires, with a capital of $700 million.
