Circumstances Surrounding Intentional Serious Harm to A. Mkrtchyan Revealed

As a result of investigative and procedural actions carried out during the pre-trial proceedings, the circumstances surrounding the intentional serious harm to A. Mkrtchyan's health and the motive have been revealed. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

The investigation obtained information indicating that on the day of the incident, September 17, 2019, at approximately 22:30, a dispute arose between A. Mkrtchyan and H. Grigoryan, a resident of Yeghyndazor, over an insignificant issue, during which they began to tug and verbally insult each other. While A. Mkrtchyan's friends tried to stop the argument, H. Grigoryan called his close acquaintances and brother, Z. Grigoryan, informing them of the incident and calling them to the yard of the aforementioned building.

After some time, they arrived at the yard of the mentioned building in several vehicles, during which H. Grigoryan unexpectedly approached A. Mkrtchyan, who was standing alone and calmly, and intentionally struck him in the face with a fist, causing him to fall. Afterward, H. Grigoryan, his brother, and a group of unidentified individuals intentionally inflicted numerous and random blows on A. Mkrtchyan, who was on the ground, particularly targeting his head, which is vital for his life, thereby causing serious harm that posed a risk to his life.

During the incident, one of A. Mkrtchyan's friends was also attacked while trying to shield his friend from the blows.

Following the incident, A. Mkrtchyan underwent surgery and has been unconscious ever since. Based on the sufficient combination of evidence obtained, H. Grigoryan has been charged under Article 112, part 2, point 6 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health) and Article 118 (bodily harm) of the RA Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody as a preventive measure.

A separate proceeding has been initiated regarding him, and the case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion. The investigation is ongoing regarding the unidentified individuals in the case and Z. Grigoryan.

It was previously reported that charges have also been brought against H. Grigoryan's brother, Z. Grigoryan, under Article 112, part 2, point 6 of the RA Criminal Code. Notice: A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty according to the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, with a valid court ruling.
