The Armenian-Azerbaijani Conflict Could Become a Catastrophe: Guterres Urges Restraint
WRed
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres is closely monitoring the rising tensions at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. During a daily briefing at the UN headquarters, spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reported that Guterres is urging both sides to exercise maximum restraint, as a large-scale conflict between the two countries could lead to disaster.
According to Dujarric, UN representatives have engaged with officials from both Azerbaijan and Armenia over the past week to call for de-escalation.
It is noteworthy that the UN Secretary-General had previously appealed to Yerevan and Baku to lay down their weapons, reduce tensions, and refrain from provocative rhetoric.
