Couple from Yerevan Sold Baby for $2000: Newborn Trafficking Case Uncovered

Law enforcement officials from the Artashat Police Department, along with the Criminal Police main department, uncovered a case of newborn trafficking based on operational information received. Through explanatory work conducted with a resident of Berkanush village, who was summoned to the Artashat police department on July 16, it was revealed that after becoming pregnant from an extramarital affair, she had made an arrangement with one of the doctors from the Artashat medical center. According to the agreement, after giving birth, with the assistance of a midwife from the same medical center, she handed over the baby for $2000 to a couple from Yerevan.

As per the arrangement, after giving birth on July 13, the woman handed over the newborn to a woman from Yerevan near the medical center, who paid her 50,000 drams.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. The doctor, midwife, and the couple from Yerevan have been identified, presented to the investigative body, and arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
