Artashat Medical Center Addresses Newborn Sale Incident
The Artashat Medical Center has issued a clarification regarding a recently circulated message about the sale of a newborn. The statement reads: 'The circulated information concerning the sale of a newborn contains unfortunate inaccuracies. It mentions that, due to explanatory work conducted with a resident of the village of Berkanush, it was revealed that after becoming pregnant from an extramarital affair, she reached an agreement with one of the doctors at the Artashat Medical Center. According to this agreement, after giving birth, with the assistance of a midwife from the same medical center, the baby was to be handed over to a couple from Yerevan for $2000. As per the agreement, after giving birth on July 13, the woman handed over the newborn to a woman from Yerevan near the medical center, who paid her 50,000 drams.'
In addition to being legally and morally condemnable, engaging in the sale of children is simply unacceptable to us. We wish to underscore that this unfortunate incident could not have occurred at our center for the simple reason that the Artashat Multidisciplinary Medical Center has been reprofiled as an infectious disease center since March 31 and exclusively serves patients diagnosed with coronavirus. Therefore, since March 31, we have not provided childbirth services, yet the message indicates that the delivery took place on July 13. We also find it important to emphasize that even if a delivery had taken place at our center, all such occurrences are rejected and simply excluded at the Artashat Medical Center today. We regret this incident and condemn all similar actions. We are confident that the preliminary investigation initiated into the matter will provide answers to all questions.'

It is worth noting that earlier the police had announced that a case of child sale had occurred.
