Armenian Competition Authority Appeals to Russia and EAEU Partners Over Ban on Armenian Fruits
The Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition has appealed to Russia and EAEU partners to take action regarding the recent anti-competitive ban on Armenian fruits in Russian territory. This was reported by Ani Smbatyan, the spokesperson for the commission, on her Facebook page.
“Today, the chairman of the Armenian Economic Competition Protection Commission, Gegham Gevorgyan, officially wrote to Igor Artemyev, the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, and Serik Jumangarin, a member of the EEC Board responsible for competition and antimonopoly regulation, concerning the prohibition imposed by the management of the ‘Food City’ wholesale and retail food center regarding the sale of fruits exported from Armenia on July 17-18,” the statement read.
The letters addressed to partners emphasized that these actions lack an economic justification, hinder the free circulation of goods between EAEU member states, demonstrate discriminatory treatment, and create unequal conditions in the cross-border market, violating the general competition rules enshrined in the EAEU treaty.
The chairman of the commission expressed hope that Russian and EAEU partners would discuss these anti-competitive actions and undertake prompt measures to restore equal conditions for competition in the market, thereby preventing similar anti-competitive actions in the future.
