65 Yards in Yerevan to be Renovated, Playgrounds Constructed, and 590 Building Entrances Repaired, Says Municipality

In Yerevan, the buildings being demolished are not illegal structures. They are personal garages belonging to residents of Kanaker-Zeytun, which will be replaced by a renovated yard in a few months. This was announced by the Yerevan municipality.

“With the agreement of the residents, 9 garages are being demolished, and in their place, we will build a playground and a green area,” stated Karen Hakobyan, head of the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district.

This year, more than 65 yards will be renovated as part of the administrative districts’ programs. Small football fields will be constructed.

“This year, two small football fields and two parks are being built in Erebuni, along with a yard area,” said Arman Abrahamyan, head of the Erebuni administrative district.

Renovated yards will feature newly repaired entrances. During renovations, old, broken windows are being replaced with new ones. According to the administrative district program from 2020, 590 entrances are set to be renovated.

Asphalt paving is also taking place in these administrative districts. Residents of Malatia-Sebastia are personally overseeing the work in their yards.

“The largest program initiated this year is the yard asphalt paving program, covering about 35,400 square meters, which is nearly five times more than in 2018,” said Davit Karapetyan, head of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district.

The asphalt paving in Norq-Marash has already been completed. Now children can play peacefully, and adults can freely move about.

Due to the narrowness of the alternative second road leading up to Norq-Marash, accidents were frequent. Now the road is being widened by more than 1 meter.

“Sergey Khanzadyan Street is of great importance to our residents. After widening, the area will be paved,” noted Edmon Ghazaryan, head of the Norq-Marash administrative district.

Alongside sidewalk construction and renovation in Arabkir, an important program for pedestrians has begun this year. The sidewalks on four streets that turned into parking lots will be designated solely for pedestrians.

In addition to community projects, the private sector is also a direct participant in the city’s beautification efforts. Every day, Yerevan awakens and thrives with more than 1 million voices residing in its 12 administrative districts. These voices drown out the city’s construction noise: the paving, sidewalk construction, and renovations are all aimed at making tomorrow’s Yerevan more orderly and comfortable.
