Reconstruction Efforts Continue in Border Communities Despite Risky Conditions, Says Governor

Reconstruction efforts were carried out throughout yesterday in the border communities of Tavush, despite the risky situation. Tavush Governor Hayk Chobanyan stated this during a meeting with reporters on July 18, adding that the restoration focuses primarily on infrastructure.

“By the end of yesterday, all infrastructure repairs were completed, including water pipelines and irrigation systems, which has allowed people to return to their work and finish their unfinished agricultural tasks today. I believe that we indeed had a productive working day in our villages. All conditions were in place to carry this out.

Concurrently, damage assessment activities have been carried out. Today, we have nearly completed the entire inventory. We are considering that a full inventory will be achieved within the week, but as of today, we have identified 12 damaged buildings: 6 homes in Aygepar and 6 in Nerkin Karmir Aghbyur, where we can already start restoration work,” said the governor, adding that work on two apartments has already begun.

He also noted that on Monday they will receive the second batch of construction workers, and by the end of the week, they expect to have the first restored homes. “During the inventory, we discovered that some damages occurred not just in recent days but much earlier, including in the 1990s. These have also been included in the inventory lists. They will also be addressed. Damaged vehicles have been recorded, and there will definitely be certain compensations. Since barns have also been shelled, and livestock has been damaged, compensation for them will also be provided,” Chobanyan stated.
