Upcoming Changes in Regional Governors Expected: 3 Names Mentioned, Following Serzh Sargsyan's Example
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that, according to our sources within the government, changes in several regional governors are expected in the near future. The names of Aragatsotn Governor Davit Gevorgyan, Ararat Governor Garik Sargsyan, and Tavush Governor Haik Chobanyan have been mentioned.
It is said that they have decided to replace them with former leaders of law enforcement agencies, much like Serzh Sargsyan did before the 2012 elections, to ensure stronger governors can facilitate the government’s candidates. In this regard, it appears that past traditions are continuing.
We were interested in the case of the Tavush governor, who obediently fulfills the desires of the leadership. We were told that the reason behind this is the elections in Ijevan—the governor is 'not managing' to provide the necessary ratings for Ghalumyan to secure the position of mayor.
Do you rule out the possibility that your powers may be terminated soon? We asked Chobanyan. 'On the contrary. We are fully engaged in activities, working on strategy, and making active visits across all sectors; I believe both 2019 was successful, and we are now emerging from the shock of the pandemic.'
