The Secretary of the "Prosperous Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, Arman Abovyan, addressed the legislative initiative of the "My Step" faction regarding a proposal to double the fines for not wearing a mask. In this regard, Arman Abovyan stated: "Dear people, our eyes are open, an effective method of combatting the coronavirus has been found. According to the government’s vision, this is fines. Let me remind you that according to the government’s perspective, the reason for the unprecedented increase in the spread of the coronavirus, and the subsequent rise in patients and deaths, is not the government, with its ineffective fight against the disease, but the ordinary 'proud citizen'. At least, this is what the government’s propaganda machine claims all day long.
And now, let me inform you that a legislative proposal has been put forward by the authorities in the National Assembly that sharply increases penalties for not wearing a mask.
1- The fine for not wearing a mask in open spaces increases from 10,000 AMD to 20,000 AMD.
2- In closed spaces and transport, the fine for not wearing a mask becomes 50,000 AMD.
3- For the same action on a repeat offense, the fine doubles to 40,000 and 100,000 AMD.
4- The period for appealing the fine is reduced by half, from 30 days to 15 days.
5- The appeal of a fine for not wearing a mask will no longer suspend its execution through administrative or judicial proceedings, meaning that the collection of the fine will occur in any case.
