Violating the Constitution for Personal Gain Cannot Go Unpunished: Arthur Vanetsyan

On the occasion of Constitution Day, the "Homeland" party has released a statement from its leader, former Head of the NSS Arthur Vanetsyan, which we present in full below:

“Violating the Constitution for personal gain cannot go unpunished. The fundamental law adopted by referendum a quarter-century ago, which has undergone two amendments, has repeatedly proven its viability and helped to overcome internal crises.

Thanks to the Constitution, during difficult periods in the independent history of Armenia, we have managed to avoid chaos, ungovernability, and situations that threaten statehood. The Constitution may not be perfect, and over time it may require amendments and improvements, but violating the current Constitution is unacceptable.

Violating the Constitution for personal gain is one of the greatest damages inflicted on the state and cannot go unpunished. The scale of constitutional violations that have recently occurred in Armenia under the state of emergency has dealt a heavy blow to our state system, law, and public atmosphere.

I am confident that the development of Armenia in the coming years, rational governance, and the success of our state in an atmosphere of internal solidarity will be accompanied by the elimination of all constitutional violations. Armenia needs a protected constitution, and we will have it. Armenia needs effective institutional mechanisms, as well as public awareness that the constitutional order is inviolable.”
