Summary of COVID-19 Pandemic Efforts in Armenia by Head of Emergency Situations Tigran Avinyan
The Head of Emergency Situations in Armenia, Tigran Avinyan, made a Facebook post summarizing the work done in the country in response to the COVID-19 pandemic so far:
“Dear compatriots,
From the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the government's top priorities has been the mobilization and expansion of healthcare system capabilities. Here are some important figures regarding this:
In the initial phase, instead of conducting up to 300 tests daily for the detection of coronavirus, by May this number had increased to up to 1000 tests, and in June, due to further development of capabilities, the number of tests doubled, reaching over 2000 tests per day. To date, Armenia has conducted a total of 120,245 coronavirus tests.
Utilizing the materials brought from China, the Institute of Molecular Biology began producing coronavirus diagnostic tests. Already, 5500 tests have been provided to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention under the Ministry of Health. Overall, it is planned to produce 100,000 locally made tests at this stage.
Since March, over 2500 hospital beds have been designated for patients infected with coronavirus, with around 290 of them being intensive care beds. Hospital medical assistance is provided in 19 medical organizations, of which 7 are located in the regions and 12 in Yerevan. To date, 15,935 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
Continuous training of medical staff has been conducted; 5680 healthcare workers have participated in courses on the new coronavirus infection, its prevention and control, as well as sampling techniques. More than 2270 people have participated in specialized international and local webinars on the new coronavirus.”
