Violence Against Member of 'Guardians of the Revolution' Group, Two Individuals Arrested

On June 21, 2020, Hayk Stepanyan, a member of the 'Guardians of the Revolution' group, reported that at around 10:30 PM on the same day, he was assaulted by a group of individuals on Tichina Street in Yerevan, who beat him with their hands, feet, and batons while shouting insults directed at him and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, they damaged his 'Toyota Camry' vehicle.

During the inspection of the crime scene, two batons were discovered at the intersection of the 3rd lane of Tichina Street in Yerevan. Following this incident, on June 22, 2020, the Investigative Committee of Armenia initiated a criminal case in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district under Article 258, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (hooliganism).

On the same day, two citizens born in 1989 and 1990 voluntarily presented themselves to the investigative authority and were interrogated. They were arrested on suspicion of committing an act provided for in Article 258, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

For the criminal case, forensic medical and forensic genetic examinations have been ordered, and other investigative and procedural actions are being carried out to ensure a comprehensive, complete, and objective investigation of the case. The pre-trial investigation continues.

Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, through a legally binding court ruling.
