Husband Prevented Wife from Taking Coronavirus Test Three Times in Gyumri; She Has Died
A 66-year-old woman from Gyumri, who had previously refused to take a coronavirus test twice, was taken to the Gyumri medical center in extremely critical condition yesterday, where she died. The result of the third test, which she took before her death, came back positive, according to reports by “Azatutyun”.
According to Anahit Sandrosyan, a physician at the “Red Cross” polyclinic, doctors tried twice to convince the deceased woman's husband to allow her to be tested. “The deceased had chronic health issues, she had a stent placed in her heart, and she visited the polyclinic on the 11th of the month. After examination, pneumonia was suspected, and to confirm the pneumonia, the patient was referred for an X-ray, which indeed confirmed that pneumonia was present. The doctor proposed sampling, but the husband refused, stating that they did not want to have it done at all and preferred to stay at home for treatment,” the doctor said.
She added that the woman was placed under supervision and isolated. After receiving appropriate treatment for three days, her condition sharply worsened, and she was transferred to the Gyumri medical center on Monday, where she passed away. The symptoms were very characteristic of a coronavirus infection, but despite several warnings from the doctor, the husband categorically refused. They did not want to undergo testing at all. They explained that even if the infection was present, they could arrange for medical instructions at home,” Sandrosyan reported.
According to the source, the husband also had pneumonia and received treatment, recovering from it, but the wife was in the risk group for coronavirus. “The woman had heart problems, she suffered from ischemic heart disease, and had vascular issues. Despite several warnings from the doctor, including the mention that weekend there would be staff and sampling opportunities, the husband refused. They did not want to receive inpatient treatment or be tested,” Anahit Sandrosyan stated, adding that the woman's life was lost due to disbelief in the existence of the virus. The 66-year-old woman was the 12th patient to die of coronavirus in the Shirak region.
