Unprecedented Attempt to Smuggle Drugs via Concealment Method Prevented at Nubarashen Penitentiary
On June 8, 2020, around 12:30 PM, the officers of the Nubarashen penitentiary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, acting on operational data, discovered a shirt soaked with a solution resembling the drug methamphetamine during the inspection of a package delivered on behalf of a detained citizen, which also contained clothing and a towel.
The attempt to smuggle drugs concealed in such a manner is unprecedented in penitentiary institutions; this method is more typical of smuggling cases, where cleverly hidden drugs are later dissolved in liquid and separated from the remaining contents by dripping.
Materials are being prepared on the fact. The aforementioned shirt and the remaining clothing delivered on behalf of the detained person have been confiscated, and a forensic chemical examination has been appointed.
Note: A person suspected or accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court judgment that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
