Supreme Court Dismisses 9 Criminal Cases Related to 2008 Presidential Elections
The Supreme Court of Armenia has fully upheld the appeals of the Prosecutor General regarding nine criminal cases against individuals involved in events surrounding the 2008 presidential elections.
According to Gor Abrahamyan, advisor to the Prosecutor General, the Court recognized the innocence of Armen Avagyan, Masis Ayvazyan, Karen Tarkhanyan, Davit Aghayan, Vardan Jhangiryan, Armen Shahinyan, Davit Matevosyan, Khachik Gasparyan, and Samvel Harutyunyan, thus terminating the proceedings of their respective criminal cases based on the absence of crime.
Additionally, regarding the case of Aram Bareghamyan, the Supreme Court partially accepted the appeal filed by the Deputy Prosecutor General, overturning prior judicial acts and sending the case back to the court of first instance for a new examination. It was noted that the Prosecutor General's Office had requested a ruling for exoneration in this case as well.
