Ambulance Transporting COVID-19 Patient Involved in Accident in Syunik, Driver Impaired

On May 24, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Syunik province, as reported by shamshyan.com. Around 8:30 PM, two vehicles collided on the 172 km section of the Yerevan-Yeraskh-Meghri highway. The accident involved a "Jinbei" vehicle with license plate 525 AO 61 driven by 51-year-old Vardan Babayan, a resident of Yerevan, and a Mercedes E-200 with license plate 19 ST 745 driven by 52-year-old Arthur Mirakyan, a resident of Goris.

According to preliminary information, fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the accident. Under the instruction of the investigator, both drivers underwent sobriety tests, which revealed that V. Babayan was intoxicated (at the highest level of impairment).

It was noted that the "Jinbei" was an ambulance vehicle, and the driver was transporting a COVID-19 infected patient from Yerevan to Kapan accompanied by a doctor. After the accident, the patient was transferred to Kapan in a disinfected special ambulance from Sisian.
