Charges Filed Against 24 Individuals in Incident in Gavar
The Investigative Committee of Armenia continues to conduct extensive investigative and procedural actions regarding the criminal case initiated over the murders of two individuals and the injuries of four others in Gavar, alongside mass disturbances involving a group of individuals causing violence and destruction of property.
According to the Information and Public Relations Division of the Investigative Committee, charges have currently been laid against 24 individuals based on a combination of substantial evidence acquired in the case. Among them, 21 are charged for participating in the mass disturbances at the "Gavar Medical Center" and inciting calls during these events. One individual is charged with attempted murder in the same center, while two others are charged with attempting murder in a manner dangerous to the lives of many during a group assault on Freedom Street in Gavar, as well as for illegally acquiring, possessing, and carrying firearms.
Proposals have been submitted to the court regarding the application of pre-trial detention measures for the 24 defendants, of which 16 have been granted, while 7 have been denied. For 6 defendants, a signature not to leave the country has been selected as a measure, and the motion for one defendant's detention is under discussion.
Additionally, decisions have been made to arrest 4 other individuals, with enforcement entrusted to the relevant subdivisions of the Police of Armenia. Earlier reports indicated that, following extensive investigative and procedural actions, as well as operational-search measures, 10 vehicles belonging to individuals involved in the incident and the gun used in the shootings have been discovered. Expert assessments have also been appointed.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Necessary investigative actions and operational-search measures are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, identify the persons suspected of committing the crime, individualize their actions, and provide a legal assessment of the crime. Information regarding the procedural decisions made based on the gathered evidence will be provided regularly.
