Arrests Made for Circulating Fake 20,000 Dram Banknotes in Eghegnadzor

On May 1, the Eghegnadzor police received information about unknown individuals circulating counterfeit banknotes with a nominal value of 20,000 drams along the road to Areni village. This was reported by the Police of the Republic of Armenia.

The criminal investigators from Eghegnadzor quickly ascertained the vehicle used by the suspects through precise operational measures, prompting search efforts. The Eghegnadzor police managed to locate the young individuals so swiftly that they had not yet left the Vayots Dzor region.

The suspects were detained at the police station. It became evident that, in addition to the aforementioned incident, they had also circulated counterfeit 20,000 dram banknotes at two gas stations, one store, and a wine shop in Vayots Dzor region. During a search of their vehicle, 48 counterfeit banknotes with a nominal value of 20,000 drams were discovered.

The individual responsible for circulating the counterfeit currency was arrested. Eghegnadzor's criminal investigators, in cooperation with the Main Department of Criminal Police and the regional police department of Vayots Dzor, obtained factual data about the origin of the counterfeit notes.

As part of the criminal case initiated, on May 2, a search was conducted at one of the houses in the village of Mkhchyan, Ararat region, where counterfeit banknotes with a nominal value of 100 dollars, as well as banknotes from other countries, were found. The homeowners, who are brothers, were also arrested. A number of expert examinations have been ordered, and the circumstances are under investigation.
