Saplings Destroyed in Several Administrative Districts of Yerevan

The municipal organization "Greening and Environmental Protection" linked to the Yerevan City Hall has issued a statement regarding the theft of trees. The statement is presented below:

"While the "Greening and Environmental Protection" organization is striving to restore the once green areas of the capital, nature 'lovers' of Yerevan are destroying saplings. This time, theft has occurred in the administrative districts of Davitashen, Ajapnyak, and Arabkir. In Davitashen, 2 Buddleia bushes were stolen, 1 Judas tree and 6 Syrian roses were taken from Ajapnyak, and from Arabkir, 500 Cyprus trees and 11 conical fir trees were stolen. This is a consequence of impunity.

It should be recalled that previously, 4 Cyprus trees were stolen from the Mashtots-Amiryan and Mashtots-Khorenatsi intersections. A fifth tree was also damaged, which they probably did not manage to take. Following this, 8 Thuja trees were uprooted and removed from the green area near the railway station. Recently, 3 of the 6 valuable pines planted the day before were stolen from the sixth section of the “Circular” park.

It should be noted that the stolen species have special methods for transportation and preservation. In other words, the thief cannot keep them. Therefore, the stolen trees are doomed to dry out. Furthermore, these trees, thanks to their phytoncides, purify the air from bacteria and various microbes, while simultaneously emitting a large amount of oxygen. In connection with previous thefts, the organization has appealed to the police."
