Birds Land on the Cyanide Tailings of Mount Ararat and Die: Alarm Raised
Econews.am reports that Levon Galstyan, a member of the Armenian Environmental Front initiative, has raised alarms about the dangers of the tailings site located in the Ararat region. He states, ‘We have received information that an extraordinary event occurred about 8-10 days ago at this cyanide tailings site. A large number of birds landed on its surface and died. According to the information obtained, the birds were collected and buried by employees of the Russian-owned Ararat gold extraction factory, under the strict supervision of Russian security personnel, ensuring that no one could photograph anything. What to do in such cases and whom to turn to remains unclear.’
This publication serves as a report of a crime, and therefore the EcoNews.am environmental information website calls for the attention of the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, the Police of the Republic of Armenia, and other law enforcement agencies.
