Citizen Arrested for Violence Against Police Officers

As a result of investigative and procedural actions carried out by the Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee, the circumstances of the incident involving violence against two police officers on duty in the "Hayouhu" square of Gyumri city have been clarified. A resident of the Shirak region has been charged.

It was previously reported that on April 14, 2020, at approximately 14:50, two police officers on duty in the "Hayouhu" square were admitted to the "Gyumri Medical Center" LLC with stab wounds. The criminal case established that on the same day, around 14:30, two brothers from the Shirak region, while driving a "Mitsubishi" vehicle, entered "Hayouhu" square from G. Nzhdeh street in Gyumri. Due to the failure of the driver and passenger to wear seat belts, the vehicle was stopped by a police officer to document the violation.

The police lawfully explained to the driver that he was driving without fastening his seatbelt, requesting to provide a driver's license and vehicle registration certificate. However, the passenger of the mentioned vehicle began to curse at the police officers, exited the car, and attacked two police officers with a knife, subsequently brandishing the knife at other present police officers. After this, the driver and passenger attempted to flee but were apprehended by the police.

Based on the collected substantial evidence, the passenger of the mentioned vehicle has been charged under Article 316, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code (violence against a representative of the authorities). He has been arrested. The pre-trial investigation continues.
