Ara Zohrabyan: Targeting the National Church with Disrespectful Phrasing
The President of the Union of Attorneys, Ara Zohrabyan, wrote on his Facebook page:
“The Catholicos’ remarks regarding the isolation of detainees in connection with the pandemic have unfortunately prompted certain officials to make disrespectful statements. This scale of pandemic has never existed before, and the government could have received or ignored the Catholicos’ appeal without emotional manifestations. Regardless of whether we accept or do not accept the Pontiff, we must remember that he represents the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, and with such disrespectful phrasing, we target our national church. The national church has had much more serious adversaries and has triumphed, and it will continue to do so. Citizens who approve of disrespectful statements should not be encouraged. By erasing that boundary, tomorrow those same citizens will indiscriminately attack other institutions (systems). We still have not learned to respect the operating systems within the state (the institution of the Prime Minister, the institution of the President, etc.), and for this, we will suffer greatly.”
