One Person Arrested on Suspicion of Stabbing Two Police Officers in Gyumri

On April 14, 2020, around 14:50, a report was received regarding two police officers stationed at the "Hayuhou" square in Gyumri being transported to the "Gyumri Medical Center". One of the officers was diagnosed with stab wounds to the left side of the chest, while the other sustained stab wounds to the middle third of the outer surface of the left thigh.

A report was submitted by the inspector of the Road Police Patrol Service of Armenia, stating that on the same day, starting at 08:00, officers from the Gyumri division of the police were performing their duties at the "Hayuhou" square in Gyumri. Around 14:30, the police stopped a vehicle of the brand "Mitsubishi" due to the driver's and passenger's seat belts not being fastened, in order to document the violation. The police explained to the driver, as required by law, that he was driving without fastening the seat belts and requested to present his driver's license and vehicle registration certificate for the administrative violation report.

In response, the passenger of the aforementioned vehicle began to insult the police officers, exited the vehicle, and attacked the two police officers with a knife. He then started swinging the knife at other present police officers, manifesting violence against them. Afterward, he attempted to flee the scene with the driver, but the individual was apprehended and arrested by the police.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under Article 316 (Violence Against a Representative of Authority) part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. An investigation is underway.
