Criminal Proceedings Against 16 Soldiers in Meghri Military Unit Terminated

Criminal proceedings against 16 soldiers involved in the insubordination incident at the Meghri military unit have been terminated. This information was reported to NEWS.am by the press service of the RA Investigative Committee.

Charges were brought against 19 conscripts for committing an offense under Article 364, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code. A measure of restraint selected for all defendants was to be handed over to the command's supervision.

Decisions to terminate the criminal prosecution were made by the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the pre-trial investigation and procedural management for 13 soldiers, based on Article 37, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code. Criminal prosecution against one soldier was discontinued under Article 35, Part 1, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code. Additionally, a separate case was detached concerning four conscripts, and a motion to confirm the indictment was sent to the supervising prosecutor.

Recall that in March 2019, around 200 soldiers left the military unit's premises, disobeying the commands of the officers. Some soldiers attempted to violate military regulations by wearing unauthorized clothing, which was not permitted by their superiors. Following the urging of the commander and military police personnel, the 200 soldiers eventually returned to the military unit without complying with any orders.
