Parliamentary Investigative Committee Accepts Condition of Serge Sargsyan

The office of the third President of Armenia has just received the response from the special investigative committee established to study the circumstances of the military actions that took place in April 2016. This response follows the office's letter dated April 8 of this year, in which a clear expression of the committee's position was expected regarding the inquiry of the third President of Armenia. The previous letter from the committee stated that 'the provision of video records can only be fulfilled in accordance with the requirements of the law on state and official secrecy and the established procedural rules,' which did not adequately answer the inquiry, as clarified in the latest response.

In today's letter from the committee, it is clearly stated that the video recording segment involving the third President of Armenia will be provided unconditionally. Considering that the committee has accepted the only condition put forth by the third President, Sargsyan reaffirms his decision presented in the office's response to the committee on April 7 of this year.

It is noteworthy that the committee has not clarified in today’s letter which provisions of Armenian legislation necessitate the written justification for the absence of the former president at the committee meeting, especially considering that the office of the third President had explicitly referenced legislation indicating that such a request is beyond the authority of the committee. If the committee did not cite specific legislative provisions, we assume it has reconsidered its approach to this matter.
