Large Embezzlement of Diesel Fuel and Gasoline in Military Unit Results in Guilty Verdict
The Armenian Military Prosecutor's Office has investigated the state of protection of state interests in the process of acquisition, storage, and usage of material resources in military unit N from May to October 2017.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, as a result of the investigation, it was revealed that relevant officials of the military unit had entered false information in official documents for selfish purposes, leading to the large-scale embezzlement of fuel allocated to the unit.
The investigation found that A.H., the head of the fuel supply service of the military unit, in collaboration with the head of the automotive service A.G. and drivers R.E., H.M., and N.E., manipulated official documents and fuel distribution summaries to embezzle approximately 7,000 liters of diesel fuel and gasoline between February 2015 and March 2017.
Based on sufficient evidence gathered during the investigation, charges were brought against the individuals for large-scale embezzlement through the misuse of official position and for committing forgery, as well as for assisting in these acts.
The accused fully acknowledged their guilt, provided confessions, and fully compensated the state for the substantial damages caused. The criminal case with an accusatory conclusion was forwarded to the General Jurisdiction Court of Armavir Province on December 13, 2019, which confirmed the defendants' guilt in a ruling on April 1, 2020, sentencing them to imprisonment and fines.
Under the Armenian law regarding the declaration of amnesty in connection with the 2800th anniversary of the foundation of Erebuni-Yerevan and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the First Republic of Armenia, the defendants were released from the imposed penalties.
