500 Thousand Drams Is Too Little for a Minister: Lena Nazaryan's Comments
Imagine that for two years, no official in our country received bonuses and a special fund was established, how much money would there be for those in need, for those who have lost their jobs, for those in a state of social despair, and similar groups? This was stated by human rights defender Zara Hovhannisyan on her Facebook page.
“After all, those who came with the revolution did not come to live well; they came to improve people's situations, to think about a new type of governance and to be more equal with their people. It is indeed important, very important to rethink this right now, as it is evident that the stratification of society is only increasing, and to tell a person, ‘…go open a booth or drive a taxi, mind your own business, it’s not my issue’ is not a relevant expression since people are confined at home due to the threat of fines. Right at this moment, in this situation, let us each re-evaluate and reconstruct our understanding of coexistence, mutual aid, and solidarity, since we all need each other,” wrote Hovhannisyan.
In the comments of the post, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Lena Nazaryan, wrote: “How many months, how many years can a minister work with a salary of 500,000 drams per month? Would this not be exploitation of people's intellectual and physical capabilities, considering the extremely overloaded schedules they operate under?” Nazaryan then notes that 500,000 drams per month is too little for a minister.
