Unclear Responses Received from the Commission Investigating April Events: Statement

The office of Serzh Sargsyan has issued a statement, announcing that it will soon reveal its stance regarding the correspondence received from the special investigative commission looking into the circumstances of the April military operations.

“The office of the third president of the Republic of Armenia has received a response letter today from the special investigative commission established to examine the circumstances of the military operations that took place in April 2016, in which the commission provided unclear answers to the questions raised by the office,” the statement noted. “This has been reported to President Sargsyan.”

Previously, the office of the third president of Armenia had sent an official letter to Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security, in response to a letter addressed to President Sargsyan on April 6. The letter stated that, despite the fact that the third president of Armenia is not obliged by law to appear before the commission's hearings, including as stipulated by the constitutional law “On the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly,” President Sargsyan has no issue presenting details regarding the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in April 2016.

“Although it is perplexing that the National Assembly commission decided to hold a session amidst the situation created by the pandemic, nevertheless, even in the event of a decision by the Government of Armenia to extend the state of emergency, the third president of Armenia is prepared to visit the commission on April 16 of this year at 14:00,” the previously issued statement from the office of the third president indicated.
