Entry of Foreigners into Armenia via Border Checkpoints Banned

On April 3, the Government of Armenia approved a decision to amend the "Declaration of a State of Emergency," which prohibits the entry of foreigners into Armenia through border checkpoints, regardless of their point of arrival. The amendment was made considering that the geographical spread of the coronavirus has expanded beyond countries with a tense epidemiological situation and now includes almost all countries of the world.

This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the aforementioned decision, any individual who is not a citizen of the Republic of Armenia or a family member of an Armenian citizen, as well as those who do not have the right to reside in the territory of Armenia legally, are prohibited from entering the country through border checkpoints during the entire period of the state of emergency.

Exceptions are made for diplomatic representatives of foreign states, representatives of consular institutions and international organizations, and their family members, as well as individuals who are granted entry rights by the decisions of the Emergency State Committee or who have received special permission in certain cases.

Upon entering the territory of the Republic of Armenia through a checkpoint, individuals are subjected to immediate special examination to detect the presence of the virus or symptoms of infection. After undergoing the appropriate examination, all individuals are subject to mandatory self-isolation unless hospitalization and/or other restrictive measures are applied due to the presence of symptoms.

If individuals refuse medical examination, hospitalization, self-isolation, and/or other restrictive measures after entering the territory of Armenia through a checkpoint, their right to free movement may be restricted within a certain area for the purposes of investigation, treatment, and preventing the spread of infection.
