And Now, Listen to Me Mr. Mayor: Ani Samsonyan
The deputy from the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, Ani Samsonyan, made a statement on her Facebook page:
“Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan refers to the criticisms voiced by his opponents as vile. As I understand it, such characterizations suit the mayor’s heart. And now, listen to me Mr. Mayor. I am tired of waiting for responses to my expired letters addressed to you. What is happening today in the field of urban development in Yerevan and in the relevant division of the institution you lead, I shall call barbarism (using terms that resonate with you) against the city and its residents (which should not have continued during the era of the revolutionary government).
It’s not the first time that you sign and provide urban development documents in violation of the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and normative-technical documents. You have granted building permits for construction on Mamigonian Street that was suspended during Taron Margaryan's time due to disputes, again in violation of regulations that were confirmed by the State Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection Body. The residents were forced to turn to the administrative court.
Right now, construction work is underway on Barybusi 11 Street in the Arabkir administrative district (temporarily paused due to the state of emergency), which is also being carried out in violation of the laws of the Republic of Armenia. The residents of Building 9 on Barybusi Street have been struggling against this construction for quite some time because the violations have blocked the access route for fire trucks to the backside of the apartment building. In addition to this fact, the State Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection Body has recorded other normative-technical violations.
I should also mention that there was a fire in a residential building at 12 Keru Street, damaging several homes, because the fire trucks could not access the area.
I appeal to the city hall, and in response, I am told that an administrative case has been initiated to determine the legality of the urban development documents issued for the reconstruction of the residential building on Barybusi 11 Street into a guesthouse. But at the same time, construction continues to progress vigorously.
I believe it is clear to you that you must come out of your quarantine, suspend this construction work, and restore the violated rights of the residents. I hope these developers have not gifted Yerevan a KAMAZ truck, a bin, or a vacuum cleaner. If they haven’t donated such gifts, then dissolve the relevant department of your institution and take a look at what you are signing, or have someone who will oversee in your place.
I will expect your active livestreams from construction sites. Otherwise, you cannot maintain a city by merely collecting trash.”
