Son of ‘Chvchv Aro’ Free After Causing Death of 2 Policemen

On April 3, Sarkis Vardanyan, son of the notorious criminal ‘Chvchv Aro’, was released from the Nubarashen penitentiary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by shamshyan.com.

Sarkis Vardanyan had been sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison for participating in a car accident that resulted in death in downtown Yerevan in 2018. The collision led to the deaths of two officers from the 1st police company who were on duty.

The report also indicated that Vardanyan was released on April 3 in accordance with point 1 of part 7 of Article 2 of the amnesty law passed by the National Assembly of Armenia in 2018, which reduced the sentence from 6 years and 6 months to 2 years and 2 months. Thus, Vardanyan was released legally from prison.

Previously, it was reported that in 2018, a 26-year-old resident of Sayat-Nova Avenue, nicknamed ‘Sakulik’, was transferred from the detention facility of the Yerevan Police to the general jurisdiction court of the Center and Norq-Marabash administrative districts. On January 11, a group led by senior investigator Armen Janjapanian, created by the Deputy Head of the Yerevan Investigative Department at the Investigative Committee, Lieutenant Colonel Artashes Vanyan, had submitted a request to the court to apply a two-month detention measure against Vardanyan, who had been charged under part 3 of Article 242 (traffic accident resulting in the death of two or more persons) and part 1 of Article 244 (fleeing the scene of a traffic accident).

Judge Ruben Nersisyan was to begin a closed court session before proceeding to the consultation room to make a decision. The source also noted that ‘Sakulik’, 26-year-old Sarkis Vardanyan, was released under the amnesty.
