Human Rights Defender Sends Letter to Penal Service Head Based on Kocharyan's Lawyers' Complaint
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia has sent a letter to the head of the Penal Service regarding the transfer of former President Robert Kocharyan from a medical facility to a correctional institution, following a complaint from his lawyers. This information was provided to 'Factinfo' by the spokesperson of the Human Rights Defender, Nune Hovsepyan.
'The transfer of the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, from a medical facility to a correctional institution is based on a medical recommendation. Nevertheless, considering that a formal request has been submitted, a letter has been addressed to the head of the Penal Service,' Hovsepyan stated.
It was previously reported that after approximately a month of inpatient treatment in a medical center, Robert Kocharyan has been discharged from the hospital and transferred to a correctional facility. His lawyers argue that under such circumstances, Robert Kocharyan's health condition does not permit him to be held in a correctional institution, where the staff have yet to deliver the results of the coronavirus test.
