Turkey Supports Brutal Actions Against the People of Artsakh: Armenian Foreign Ministry

The statement from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding elections in Nagorno-Karabakh is yet another manifestation of the country’s hostile policy towards the Armenian people. This was stated by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

The statement noted: “Remaining true to its traditional stance of selectively interpreting international documents, Turkey cites UN Security Council resolutions on one hand, while ignoring the latter’s direct call to the regional countries to refrain from any hostile actions in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the other hand. Meanwhile, it is the very same Turkey that has subjected the Republic of Armenia to a land blockade for decades and supports the aggressive and brutal actions unleashed against the people of Artsakh, including those in April 2016.”

“It is equally unfounded for the Turkish Foreign Ministry to reference the principles of the OSCE and the Minsk process. Let us remind that the OSCE/CSCE decision of March 24, 1992, which laid the groundwork for the Minsk process, refers to the elected representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh as participants in that process. To have elected representatives, elections must be conducted, and from this perspective, the elections to be held in Artsakh not only do not contradict but rather stem from the logic of peaceful resolution and the documents underlying it.”

“Turkey’s attempts to present itself as a defender of international law and its calls to the international community are more than bankrupt in light of the ongoing violations of the rights of peoples and the territorial integrity of neighboring countries by that country, as well as the implementation of an aggressive policy that violates norms of international law and democracy.”
