We Can Still Send the Constitutional Court Bill to the Venice Commission, There is Time: Makunts
The bill regarding a referendum involving the 7 members of the Constitutional Court can still be sent to the Venice Commission; there is time for that. This was stated by Lilith Makunts, the head of the 'My Step' faction, during a conversation with reporters today.
In response to a question about why the bill for early retirement of judges was sent to the Venice Commission while the bill for the referendum was not, Makunts replied: 'The draft constitution adopted in 2015, including the model of the Constitutional Court that is currently not in operation, was sent to the Venice Commission and received a positive conclusion. What we intend to change is to restore the model that was already established by the constitution in 2015 and which is not currently in effect. We are dealing with a package that they have already accepted.'
