“One Should Not Allow the Leader of a Defeated Country to Be This Brazen”: Norair Norikyan

Lawyer Norair Norikyan writes on his Facebook page: “One should simply not allow the leader of a defeated country to be this brazen… When speaking with the President of Azerbaijan and, in general, in any format with that country, one must do so from the position of a winner, a imposer, a creator of the agenda, and a proposer of conditions, based on the results of the war as well as the current realities of Artsakh. The mocking behavior of the leader of a defeated state, along with their intermittent displays of smirks, is not only incomprehensible to me but absolutely unacceptable as well. Conversations with the President of Azerbaijan must be civilized yet firm, clear, and confident, based on concrete realities, documents, and the actual historical facts of the conflict. One should simply not allow the leader of a defeated country to be this brazen… I have mentioned this before, and I insist again that regardless of the circumstances, one must speak with Aliyev in the tone of ‘Recognize Your Limits.’ Otherwise, judging by his demonstrated behavior, it becomes clear that their notions regarding the resolution of the Artsakh conflict bear no relation to our understandings or the outcomes of the war… It is evident that under such a position, Azerbaijan will sooner or later attempt to resort again to military adventures, plunging our region into a pit of instability for many years to come. Today’s public debate was an important reality for understanding how, henceforth, we must speak to Azerbaijan in terms of tone and emphasis… ”
