Mikael Melkumyan Discusses the Situation in the Auto Market with Importers
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration of the National Assembly of Armenia, Mikael Melkumyan, met with automobile importers. This was reported by the official website of the National Assembly of Armenia.
During the meeting, the situation surrounding the automobile import process and auto market was discussed. It was noted that in 2019, a total of 189,000 vehicles were imported into Armenia, of which 22,000 were exported to Kazakhstan and 37,000 to Russia. The remaining 130,000 vehicles are located in the Republic of Armenia. Many citizens of Armenia have taken loans and borrowed funds for the purpose of reselling these vehicles.
Importers expressed concern regarding the disagreements that have arisen with the Kazakh market from an export perspective. According to Mikael Melkumyan, the government should have already negotiated with certain member countries of the EAEU to eliminate existing restrictions, which would contribute to the activation of the market.
The committee chairman assured that he would raise the issue during today's question-and-answer session with the Government. "I will suggest that these discussions be trilateral - involving automobile importers, the National Assembly committee, and the Government," said Mikael Melkumyan.
